The Dancer

PRIYA ATKINS
Priya began her dance journey at the age of 5, gaining her foundation under the direction of Karthika Ganesh for one year and Sudha Panchangam for two years. In 2016, she joined Laasya dance school, and flourished under the guidance of Smt. Guru Mridul Burgi.
Priya has had the opportunity to perform at many competitions and festivals in Calgary, Red Deer, and the Yukon. In Calgary, Priya has performed at Indian and multicultural celebrations such as Rath Yatra, Chinook Culture Blast, Diwali and Navratri. Outside of Calgary, She has demonstrated her skills at Rath Yatra in Red Deer, and at India Fest in the Yukon. Priya has worked with her talented group of peers over the years to earn multiple 1st and 2nd place standings at the CBKM Chithirai Dance Festival.
Over the last few years, Priya’s passion for dance has pushed her to embrace the role of student - teacher, which allows her to share her love for the art form. While Priya's passion as a dancer draws much of her focus, she has also found time to be a dedicated volunteer at school and in her community. Priya has enjoyed volunteering at the Making Changes Foundation, as a student teacher at Laasya, in various school committees and events, as well as contributing to the other Arangetram’s of other Laasya senior students.
In her free time, Priya enjoys golfing with her family and is an accomplished cook and baker. Priya recently graduated grade 12 from Ernest Manning High School and will be pursuing a degree in Biology at Queen's University this September. Priya hopes to apply the skills she has acquired as a dancer, and as a teacher, in her everyday life and to her future dance endeavors.
